Snowflake Services Partner Ecosystem Snapshot

Organizations continue to migrate their workloads to cloud environments, seeking more agility, operating expense optimization (rather than capex burdens), and overall higher application performance and availability. Enterprise applications being pushed to the cloud include ERP systems, CRM, custom-developed applications, and a slew of other apps, including databases, data warehouses, data lakes, etc. Snowflake is a data cloud platform that continues to gain traction among enterprises (https://www.snowflake.com/).

Snowflake started as a next-gen cloud data warehouse, an evolution from the Teradata and Netezzas of the world, competing with similar solutions from Amazon Redshift, Azure Synapse, or GCP BigQuery. Adding their Snowflake Marketplace unlocked network effects that other platforms did not possess. This has driven over 7,000 companies to implement Snowflake, helping the platform get close to $2 billion in revenues in 2022. Like other ISV ecosystems, this growth requires a partner network to support adoption and provide professional services. We took a snapshot of the Snowflake services partner ecosystem during Q4 2022. Below are some key highlights of what we saw.

In Q4, 305 Snowflake services partners were worldwide, ranging from large SIs with more than 100,000 employees to niche data consulting companies with less than 20 team members. Overall, these partners employed 5,413,948 employees and carried 4,592 Snowflake certifications. The table below shows partners and certifications by employee count. We see that certifications are clearly concentrated in the larger SIs (more than 55% of certifications in service partners with more than 10,000 employees).

Headcount Tier Services Partners % Certifications %
More than 100,000 13 4% 1,813 39%
10,000 - 99,999 24 8% 724 16%

From a regional standpoint, more than half of the partners are based in North America, a third in Europe, and 10% in Asia. Certifications, though, are more concentrated in North America (62%).
