Shopify Services Partner Ecosystem

Shopify is one of the most popular e-commerce platforms (https://www.shopify.com/). Founded in 2006, the company went public in 2015 and currently has over $7 billion in revenue and over 10% of the US e-commerce market share (e-commerce accounts for approximately 15% of US retail). Shopify started as an online platform and supports brick-and-mortar stores, marketplaces, social selling, and B2B.

Like other software platforms, Shopify created a partner program for tech and services organizations to help with adoption. Below is an analysis of the company’s systems integrators (SIs) and services partners.

Shopify has approximately 1,600 overall service partners. We excluded ~140 freelancers or 1-person companies, leaving us with ~1,400 partners to map. These implementation and consulting partners range from large SIs to boutique advertising agencies that help implement e-commerce solutions for their customers.

More than a third of these partners are in North America (the US and Canada), with a third in Europe. Every region has its fair share of partners.

Shopify primarily has boutique firms. Their top services partner has 500,000 employees, so the remaining partners have an average of ~30 team members per partner. Almost all are services firms with 1-49 employees.
