Debt Labs (https://www.getdbt.com/) is a very popular data modeling tool in the ELT (extract load transform) pipeline used with major data cloud platforms and data warehouses. It supports SQL and Python but transforms data after loading to the data warehouse, lakehouse, etc.
The company was started in 2016 in San Francisco, CA. They have a free, open-source version of their product to perform transformations via the command line. dbt Cloud is their paid version, which has an intuitive GUI. The company has approximately 400 employees; over 30,000 companies use their open-source and paid products.
Given the product’s popularity with data and analytics service providers, we analyzed their services partner ecosystem.
After cleaning the data, dbt has 161 listed consulting partners, from large global system integrators (GSIs) to smaller boutique data consulting businesses.
Almost half of the partners are in North America, and more than a third are in Europe. As is typical, almost 90% of these consulting partners' employees are based in Asia, primarily in India.
If we look at the partner base by number of employees, we’ll see most of the partners are boutique consulting companies (86% have fewer than 500 employees).
